WONDERLAND DREAMS OF COLOURS - All together now! Vibrant, fast-moving designs from Beatrice von Tresckow
The name of Beatrice von Tresckow is synonymous with startlingly beautiful colours, beading and embroidery, in combinations that will leave you quite breathless. I photographed the outfits soon after completing an intricate parody of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The same location was used and her exuberant designs fitted so well within the lavish surroundings.
My concept for the photographs was one of fantasy and ill-defined surroundings. As in dreams rapid movements and changing scenes bring about a sensation of floating and the deliberate blurred setting evokes a bizarre and curious world - a wonderland. A lively pictorial urgency introduced by the obscured scene provides a sense of transition, a short-lived moment between the permanency of the vibrant garments. Conspicuous detail of both model and clothing amongst the imprecise areas forces a spectator to wander continually back to the figure as the embroidered decoration always remains the target for the eye.
In today's tough economic climate independent retail businesses are struggling to keep their head above water or, worse, going bust. Not so for eclectic Cheltenham-based designer Beatrice von Tresckow, who has a shop in plush Montpellier Walk, Cheltenham. Born in India to German parents, Beatrice is a hugely-popular specialist designer who draws on her experiences of living in India and the Middle East. This coupled with her textile design training, means her designs are characterised by the imaginative use of vibrant colour, intricate beading and exquisite fabrics.
